Description
But it features one of the most loved Shakespeare characters: Falstaff, the down-on-his luck, boastful but cowardly over-weight knight, who first appeared in the Bard’s history plays on Henry IV. Queen Elizabeth I enjoyed him, and Shortlist magazine lists him amongst the 40 coolest characters in literature.
“The way the play anticipates contemporary sitcom…is winningly alive.” — The Independent, UK.
In this story, Falstaff attempts to woo two rich married-women in the town of Windsor, hoping to get his hands on their wealth. However, the two ladies turn the table on him with a series of tricks, involving a highly jealous husband and a busybody neighbour. The play’s light-heartedness and slapstick humour have always spurred audiences to laughter. And Shakespeare being Shakespeare, still manages—among all the naughty fun and games—to squeeze in witty and pointed comments on the nature of human relationships.
The original play was about three-hours long, but SD has brought it down to around 90 minutes. Although abridged, the performance will be in the original language, plus our signature narration. We will focus on the main plot and retain the play’s funniest and juiciest moments. At the end of the performance, we will have a post-show Q&A when you can ask questions, feedback and share your related experience.
