ALFIAN SA'AT (@alfian77) is a playwright, poet and fiction writer. Dah tu jer.
DORIAN WILDE (@dreghren) is a transman who writes. Maybe one day he'll find the magic words and his family will understand. Well, one can hope.
HAFIDZ BAHAROM (@hafidzbaharom) is a writer for The Malaysian Insider who focuses on socioeconomics based on lessons from his family.
JO KUKATHAS (@jokukathas) is an actor, director and writer. She has a large family scattered from Timbuktoo to Peru. Maybe.
SHARAAD KUTTAN (@sharaadkuttan) peers into the family crypt to find Indian films, an anti-colonial trial, green chili chutney, a hybrid orchid and his story.
THOR KAH HOONG has been told he's not a Malaysian because his plays were in English. He created the first multi-lingual play in Malaysia.
"Sometimes, it seems like Malaysia is still stuck in primary school. So Story Fest 2012 has invited Malaysian writers and performers to revisit the primary school essay titles that inspired them to write. And see how our teachers tried to sharpen our collective pencils with approved aspirations. Now with more ironic, more jaded, more worldly worldviews, perhaps we can channel, challenge or chuck aside those aspirations and simply celebrate different ways of growing up AWESOME".
“There have been great societies that did not use the wheel, but there have been no societies that did not tell stories.” —Ursula K. LeGuin
Stories are told in English & Malay and may contain mature themes.
