Description : Storytelling (For adults & kids)
Hansel and Gretel's candy home becomes a prison. Snow White runs away from a tyrant. Cinderella scrubs and works and dreams. But in the end, they all find their homes. Yet for many children, a home remains a fairy tale. Refugee children, stateless children, street children, and children forced to work, sleep in our streets daily.
Time slots:
Sat 17 Mar, 12:30pm
DINA ZAMAN (@dinazaman) reads “Cats in the Rubbish” (about street children)
Sat 17 Mar, 2pm
ODIE ABDUL (@odietensparkle) reads “Kailash” (refugee children)
Sun 18 Mar, 1pm
JOANNA BESSEY (@joannabessey) reads “The Little Dancing Bear” (child labour)
Sun 18 Mar, 4pm
WOON KING CHAI reads “Fin the Brave” (stateless children)
Voice of the Children, a children advocacy organisation, hopes to change short-sightedness, xenophobia, prejudice, fear, and hatred that hurts children by changing policies and changing the way people think. We have published four wonderful children storybooks, lovingly written and illustrated by Malaysians, highlighting issues faced by vulnerable children. For Story Fest 2012, we have invited local personalities to read from these books rich with love, courage and compassion.
"Our good friends at Gardner and Wife have invited us to participate in a storytelling workshop weekend at the PJ Live Arts, Jaya One in PJ on 17th & 18th March (Saturday & Sunday) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We’ve been given four slots, in which VoC will be presenting all our books, Cats in the Rubbish, The Little Dancing Bear, Fin the Brave & Who Is My Family? The Story of Kailash the Little Zebra. "
