Description : Westports Malaysia Dragons is a professional basketball team established by a joint effort of Malaysia’s very own young successful entrepreneurs who have a passion for sports Mr. Ruben Emir Gnanalingam, Dato’ Wira Dani Daim and Dato’ Robin Tan Yeong Ching.
Westports Malaysia Dragons is the first team to represent Malaysia in the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League (ABL), which would be running from the month of October till February every year. The AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League is fully endorsed by the South East Asia Basketball Association (SEABA) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia.
Westports Malaysia Dragons’ long-term vision is to create regional platform of high performance sports and as a self-sustaining professional team in Malaysia. In order to achieve such a feat,Westports Malaysia Dragons will be investing into facilities, infrastructure and players development to build and create an entertainment entity around basketball to be the second most popular sport in Malaysia next to football.
Quoting from Dato’ Wira Dani Daim, who envisions a future for youths picking up basketball as a profession, “We will be creating another avenue for kids to participate in a healthy lifestyle and sports by giving them a target and show should they strive to rise to the top, they can eventually play the game they love as professional players”.

Westports Malaysia Dragons would be organizing an Under-14 and Under-17 league with the objective of nurturing the youth in basketball, developing them into professional players. With teams from 5 other different countries such as Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Philippines, Westports Malaysia Dragons sees this as a good opportunity to bring international experience in developing the youth of Kuala Lumpur and also Malaysia.
